Pregnancy and Chiropractic

Pregnancy changes how you carry your weight, and many people have back, hip or pelvic discomfort along the way. Some ask whether chiropractic care can help. Here are answers to the questions we hear most.

Is it difficult to be adjusted while pregnant?

No. We adapt as your pregnancy progresses: side-lying positions, cushions, and tables that let you lie face down comfortably. We use gentle and low-force techniques and avoid pressure on the abdomen.

Is it safe?

Chiropractic care is commonly used during pregnancy, and serious problems are rare. We take a full history first. Please talk with your OB or midwife before starting care, and tell us about any pregnancy complications.

What can it help with?

People most often come in for lower back pain, hip or pelvic discomfort, and sciatica-type pain. Care may include adjustments, stretches and exercises you can do at home. We can't promise a specific outcome, and chiropractic care doesn't replace prenatal care.

Call your OB or midwife, or 911, for bleeding, fluid leaking, severe or one-sided abdominal pain, regular contractions before 37 weeks, severe headache or vision changes, or a change in your baby's movement.

After the baby arrives

Lifting, feeding and carrying a newborn can strain your neck and back. We're happy to see you after delivery, once your provider says it's okay.
